Finishing up with another engagement session, Jared and I packed up all of our equipment, hopped into our SUV and waved our last goodbyes. Driving down a back country road, sittin’ side by side, I’m flipping through the back of my camera to pick out a favorite of the day. “Whoa!, look at all those firefly’s!!”. I quickly put my camera down and looked out the window. It looked like God went super crazy with his glitter and spilt it in the fields. I was getting so excited watching the beautiful bugs lighting up in the dark. “Pull over! Lets get a picture!” I yelled out with excitement. Jared pulls over to the side on the next road entrance we come to, whips out the tripod and attaches our camera. CLICK……..CLICK. 6 second shutter. “Did it work??” I yelled out with an anxious voice. “Not yet” he tells me. CLICK……………………………..CLICK 15 second shutter. “You can kinda see them but, not really.” We tried a few more times with a few more exposures and couldn’t figure out how to get those crazy little creatures to show up in our camera. Atleast, not as cool as we were seeing them. “Alright, lets pack up and go home.” Jared said with a disappointed voice. As he was packing up, I took one last look into the field. It was quiet, no street lights, no cars. Just Me, Jared a million firefly’s and a quarter lit sky after a sunset. If I could have snapped a permanent memory of that moment in our life, I would have. Because, not too often do we ever just stop, take a minute and watch the firefly’s. It really makes you appreciate what is most important in life.
