As many of you may know we took a trip to New York City to attend a wedding photography workshop. The workshop was geared towards perfecting our ranking ability in google. It was held by the one and only Tofurious, also known as Lawrence Chan in real peoples world. Who uses real names anymore??? The experience was amazing and I took a lot away from it! We were also invited to a wedding photographers industry party that was held after the workshop and we were able to meet some amazing photographers as well as make some awesome friends. One of my favorite moments would have to be shaking some big named photogs hands without really knowing who they were until after they walked off.
Allow me to elaborate a little bit:
I was conversing with Lawrence about some SEO stuff that I had questions on when a couple approaches us and they start talking with Lawrence. They look at me and ask Lawrence, and who is this? Lawrence came back with, this is my friend Jared, he attended my workshop. I stuck out my lanky arm to shake the mans hand when suddenly for a moment time slowed down. For some reason he just really stuck out to me. The man standing in front of me had on a vintage looking biker jacket, blue jeans, and some amazing cowboy boots. These boots were no regular Joe Schmo boots. They had really intricately sown flames all over the front, and they looked like they had a few hundred miles on ‘em. In his jacket pocket he was toting around a bottle of wine. His dirty blonde hair was gelled back as if the wind had been rushing through it. I literally thought he arrived to the party riding a Harley. Time resumed as normal and he grabbed my hand saying, Hey, Im Bob! I exchanged pleasantries and his wife, who was dashingly dressed, stuck out her hand and greeted me as well saying, and Im Dawn, nice to meet you Jared. Rachel was near by so she was also introduced to the couple. After a few minutes of conversing they went on their way. After they had left Rachel came up to me and said, I had to try so hard to keep from being awe struck! I said, what do you mean? She looks at me in amazement and says, do you have any idea who that is?!?! I said, The guys name was Bob and I forget the girls name. (I am so incredibly bad at remembering names, I need to start spelling them out as soon as I hear them like Dane does.) She said, That is Bob and Dawn Davis! You know Oprah, Eva Longoria… She started naming all these famous people they had shot. Before that point in time I only knew the couple by name. I had never seen a photo of them before. They are amazing at what they do and it was a privilege to finally meet them in person.
Which leads me to this thought: I shook the hand of a guy who shook hands with Tony Parker of the Spurs… So basically, Tony and I are best friends now… (Joke) If only it worked like that
This is a photo of Rachel on our flight into NYC:

Heres Rachel In a Park Near Grand Central Station:

Me under the NBC Studios building at Rockerfeller Center. (I love 30 ROCK so I had to get a photo here!)

Returning back to the harbor.

Over all it was a pretty amazing time. We had a rough start. My laptop crashed the day we got their. Itineraries, reservations, things to do, our connection to the outside world… GONE! So, we had to take a hike to the Apple Store and pick up another one. I also left my iPhone in a cab. I felt like I lost a part of myself!! I finally went to att yesterday and picked up another one. Other than that it was an awesome time. We were glad to get home though. There is just so much incredible energy in the city that you never actually get to wind down and relax.
Here are a few of the amazing people we had the pleasure of meeting:
Jason Groupp – NYC’s most awesome wedding photographer
John Michael Cooper – very different wedding photography
Seshu – Connecticut documentary wedding photography
Tim Dinofa – modern south NJ wedding photographer with very neat handwriting
Steven Young – amongst the most awesome NYC peeps
Willi Wong – NYC modern and lifestyle type of guy
Jason Miller – Washington DC guy but missed the DC workshop I guess
Jim Altieri – CT!
Tina Jay Photography – Philly! (and fellow Penn Stater I might add:) )
Kim Percival – just Kim (leading a double life)
Darren Squashic – fresh and fun
Ahmetze – NY and NJ awesomeness
