Ahh babies….I have so many lovely clients and friends who are preparing for their first child right now. Lisa is one of those lovely gals! Motherhood looks good on her. Her personality, patience, humor and “southern bell” characteristic just scream out Beautiful Mama! Her and Nick are so blessed to have their love for each other and a active healthy baby on the way.

Shooting Lisa’s baby bump shoot was the first time I’d ever felt a baby kick in their mama’s stomach. It was one of those feelings that was shocking, surprising and “oh my gosh, she just KICKED ME!!!!” I loved every minute of it and it reignited my baby fever! My 5 year plan might be minimized a tad

When I was chatting with Nicole through email about the post wedding details I asked her the most recgonized question a newlywed bride could be asked…When are the babies going to be arriving?? Well, little did I know, she was PREGNANT!! I didn’t hear a response from her for a couple of weeks and she replied excitedly that she couldn’t reply due to being pregnant and not ONE person knew yet!! I might just have a good way of sensing these types of things….so if you get an email from me asking about babies, watch out!

Nicole and Brian have seriosuly grown to be apart of the Jacobus family and I couldn’t be more excited to have such wonderful people in my life. Nicole is constantly upbeat and possitive and Brian is calm and HILARIOUS!!!!! They make such a cute couple and will make beautiful parents, inside and out.

This should be an advertisement for J.Crew’s summer straw hat!!

Tis the season. A season where families get outside to play, laugh and create memories. The season in which I enjoy shooting the most. SUMMER!!!! With summer in full swing it is the PERFECT time to have new family portraits updated! Maybe you’re like me and all of my child portraits were shot in a studio with a white backdrop. Mom dressed us up in crazy frilly dresses and some 80 year old photographer shook cat toys at us to try to get us to smile! Well, I like to handle things a bit different. Im an outdoor photographer. I direct you to have fun and be yourself in front of my camera. When I shoot with kids?? Im loud, hyper and playful. The kids love it and they give me beautiful REAL smiles! Maybe its time you updated your child’s pictures??

Sometimes they’re a little shy. But it can be OH SO CUTE!

I don’t photograph many families. I tend to focus more on my weddings and now more attention to my boudoir. But time to time I get a little monster that really sends my heart over the edge. I had the privilege the other day to photograph this cute little monkey, Michael. He was the sweetest thing!! I loved every minute with him and could have shot him all night long. He was SOOO over it after 20 minutes though. Here is a small sneak peak of his little photo shoot!!

I cant wait to get him in front of my camera again soon!

Then we headed inside to see what trouble we could run into!

Mira | One Year

Ive said it before. When I shoot families it holds a special place in my heart. I love seeing all kinds of personalities meshed into a solid and happy foundation. Jared and I have been married for a little over 3 years now and the urge to get started our own family has been in full swing. We still desire to wait a few years to have kids but seeing happy families gives us that much more excitement about starting our own. I had the wonderful joy of shooting Mira’s one year old photographs. If you remember, I shot Mira when she was just a tiny little baby. I fell in love instantly with this family because their personalities were so much like my own. First meeting the entire clan I was surrounded with such energy, kindness and openness. Did I mention energy? I remember family members standing behind me working so hard at getting young Mira’s attention. With BIIIINNNGGGG’s…AHHHHHH’s and loud claps I knew I had come into a family after my own heart. If any of you have ever worked with me you know that I get overly excited about fantastic images. Sometimes I even let out a gigantic squeal. When I shoot babies?? You better believe I know fantastic and super embarrassing versions- with maybe a tad of crazy goofy faces mixed in- of “I’m a Little Tea Pot” and “Ittsy Bittsy Spider”.

If you are the few around me when Im working…I apologize. I promise I didn’t just escape from the mental institute. I love making people laugh, and I’ll do anything to achieve it. =)

Aiden and Gabriel | Newborns

Baby fever. Mostly every woman experiences it at one point in time or another right? Well, this week I had the wonderful opportunity of getting closer to 2 new baby boys. And I’m in love. You see, Ive gone in and out of baby fever for about 3 years now. But whenever I do, I prescribe myself one trip through the play land at the mall or a moment in a toy store. And there we have it. Cured. But here lately this remedy hasn’t been working much. Ive been finding these screaming babies, running nosed toddler to actuallybe kind of cute. Well, Aiden and Gabriel didn’t help. NOT. ONE. BIT!!! I fell in love the moment I first held them. When I was working with them and positioning them in their bobby (if that is how you spell this super comfy device) they were both fast asleep like little angels. I just surrounded them both with the biggest, yet softest, hug that I could give. Yup, baby fever is back…..But who COULDN’T have baby fever with these two? Just look at them!!!!

Mimi’s Wonderland | Birthday

Themed birthday parties. My wonderful friend Katie knows how to throw an extraordinary themed birthday party. You might remember seeing Hope’s birthday party blog posted on here back in the late summer! Mimi decided she was going to have an Alice and Wonderland themed party this year for her 4th birthday. She made the cutest little Alice! The day was filled with a juggler, face painting, crafts, blow up bounce house’s, and lots and lots of yummy food!! Katie’s friend made the most awesome Cheshire cat Ive ever seen!!

Jenkins Family Christmas

Last week I had the chance to shoot the Jenkins family Christmas pictures! Rachel, Eric and I have known each other since this past summer and this shoot was well over due! The date we had scheduled to shoot started to become a disaster! Typically we will shoot at the Franklin Park Conservatory during the winter time. Especially if there are little babies involved. But the night we had scheduled it for the FPC was having their annual Christmas Party!! Tickets were sold out! So Rachel and I scrambled around searching for a place to shoot inside and still maintain the pretty Christmas feel. “The Blackwell hotel!!” She texted me. OF COURSE! The Blackwell Hotel downtown Columbus was perfect. It was also where Rachel and Eric had their wedding reception! The hotel was beautifully decorated and we were able to have fun inside and get the family photos we wanted! )

Then we headed outside for a few! Being that it was dark out we had to use off camera lighting. We also used off camera for Ryan and Holly’s wedding!

I just adore this one!

Breathe a little

This year has been a blur. I remember Christmas time last year very well. We continue struggling to make sure every family member has an equal amount of out attention and move onto the next. Our Christmas begins to look like a wild circus event. My parents this past summer decided it was time to go their separate ways. Its been very hard. Emotions change day to day and I’m just craving for some consistency. So this Christmas we now have 6 locations to try and spread our time out to. But there is only one family member I have in mind. My Grandpa. Just 2 months ago he went into the hospital complaining of a pain in his side. He has been complaining about this pain for as long as I can remember. After many check ups later they finally found something. A very small tumor in his colon. Surgery scheduled. The Dr’s came back out and said the small tumor they found was actually attached to a baseball sized tumor on the outside of the lining. It has just reached the point of breaking through the colon lining.

He’s been there ever since. Somehow the cancer has spread through out his entire abdomen, colon, and liver. They diagnosed him in stage 4. He had his first round of chemotherapy 2 weeks ago and will receive another round this Today. The Dr’s aren’t very hopeful.

Yesterday I was seriously thinking about life. How fast it flies by. How important loved ones are to us. And how important it is to live a life you really want to live. Dont get caught in the main stream of society. Love more, give even more, laugh, cry, pray….ENJOY! I’m slowly beginning to take my own advice. Its so easy to get caught up in the world. But I crave something more. Something not of this world. Today my prayer is that I can spend just ONE more Christmas with my Grandpa. Just one.

Franklin Park Conservatory | Family

The day of the Rovai shoot we were expected to receive 2 inches of snow. Being that we were shooting a family with two little twin boys we opted to shoot at the Franklin Park Conservatory downtown Columbus, Ohio. There are so many fun options here and so many different climates! I loved working with this family! Colton and Nolan, age 2 1/2, were so good!! Kids can be difficult to work with sometimes and I was so proud of these two. They were so much fun and gave great hugs and kisses )

Fall shoots | Continued

If you follow me on Facebook you know my life as of right now doesn’t quite exist. The Jacobus Duo has been pumping out the shoots and making new things happen. We have been working very hard and are very excited to have gained the new business and new friends. Here is a small sneak peek at what Ive been up to this last week! )

I’m super excited to show you these next images. Jared’s little brother, Michael, is in a super rad rock band. I’m so proud of them. They just recorded their first song and from what Ive heard they have some serious serious talent. So being that they have their band established and are going to go places they needed some totally rad band photos to help out with their promotions. Jared gladly accepted the shoot and these are just a few of the sweet images that he was able to get that night. I was able to tag along and help Jared with lighting and it was so fun to watch the guys interact with each other and really enjoy the photo shoot. Check out With Skies Aside at MYSPACE!

Fun fact: Michael is closest to the camera. Seth, our cousin is right next to Michael. And Mike (Michael’s best friend) is on the very end.
