Stacey and Noah | Married

Oh man. Oh Oh OH man. These folks know how to have fun. Stacey and Noah were such a blast to be with their entire wedding day. The early afternoon started in the small town of Logan Ohio. The forecast was predicted to be a 90% chance of rain and it was incredibly bright and sunny the ENTIRE day. I tell ya, we needed it. There were a few minor problems that occurred on the wedding day so bright sunshine helped make everyone happy. Including me!!

Stacey and Noah decided to do a “first look” to get a majority of the images done before hand. I love when couples meet before hand because you would be surprised at how calm it makes everyone. We hopped on over to a small park before the ceremony and then shot quite a bit around the church. We were fairly limited to all the places we could go due to the sun being so darn bright!

After the ceremony in Logan Stacey and Noah held their reception at The Vault downtown Columbus! We took some more time around Columbus to get some more portraits of everyone. Im not much of a graffiti wall shooter but this little alley way was right where the limo dropped everyone off and I took advantage of the beautiful fun colors!!

Jenessa and Marcus | Engaged

I love shooting engagements. Its the perfect time for a bride and groom to really get to know how I work and for me to get to know how they photograph best. A lot of times this is where most people are nervous. I like to think I can easily calm the nerves of someone who might be in front of a camera for the first time. Dear Jenessa, she was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Bless her heart. The first few minutes we worked through Jenessa’s nerves and then she broke free from what was holding her back and started acting like a rock star!

Jenessa was a bridesmaid in a wedding we did a little over a year ago! She remembered our work, became friends on Facebook, and she’s been stuck with us ever since. I loved “meeting” her and Marcus for the first time. I could have sat there for hours and chatted about weddings and fitness (They own a gym together! Be sure to check out Shred Fitness!!). I actually have had 3 ladies who Ive shot boudoir for that used Marcus as their personal trainer!!

I like to think I have the coolest couples ever. It seems like every bride and groom I work with its so easy to see us being really great friends!! I know I say that a lot but its true and I think its really important to have that connection with your clients!!

Mariko and Dan | Married

Dearest Mariko and Dan,

My heart is full. My happy cup is over flowing with love. I cant tell you enough how much it meant to me to be with you on your special day. The experience alone was worth a million bucks.

I remember the first day we met, Mariko. You knew little English yet we communicated to the deepest level. You showed me the beautiful bond you and Dan have for each other and the joy you both brought to one another’s lives. I could see in Dan’s eyes that he wanted to hug you forever and never let you go. You were shy at first but loosened up through out the shoot. You learned what it meant to be SASSY and I will always remember teaching you that word for the first time…cause’ GIRL, YOU ARE SASSY! I remember the deer that were only 30 yards away and you watched in amazement and slight caution as Dan explained to you what they were. Im sad to think that your wedding day has come and gone for I could have photographed you all day long…and I totally tried!

Dan, never lose your passion for Mariko. Its refreshing and adoring watching you love her. You hold her tight in your arms with no intentions on letting go. You two have a connection that is beyond words and very little does my photography show the deepest desire you two share. Im honored to have captured so many great moments between the two of you on your wedding day. I look forward to sharing more moments as your family grows within the years.

Meredith and John | Modern Columbus Wedding

This past weekend was a bit of a blur. We had two weddings, one on Friday and one on Saturday. On Friday we shot the beautiful modern wedding of Meredith and John Gale. We arrived at the hotel a little early to scope out our “first look” meeting place and to get settled in. The great thing about the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus is that the 4th floor pool deck provides a wonderful city-scape background. On the wedding day the pool deck was actually supposed to be closed to the public but a wonderful employee of the hotel allowed us to go out there for a while. So we had this whole pool deck to ourselves with a romantic view of the city. It was delicious.

Meredith and John decided on doing a “first look” which is perhaps one of my most favorite things a bride and groom could do. A first look is when the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony. We create a fun and suspenseful situation where the grooms back will be towards the bride as she walks out and has him turn around to see her for the first time. Im usually in front of the groom capturing his reactions to her walking up behind him and its so neat to see a groom get kind of nervous and anxious. The moment when she has him turn around emotions just fly off the charts. There’s laughs, cries, excitement and love. A lot of couples say that even though they see each other before the ceremony it doesn’t take away from the emotions running through them as they walk down the aisle. Doing a first look is great if you’re short on time between the ceremony and reception or if its going to be dark after the ceremony.

After Meredith and John had their first look we popped all over the place to take pictures. Goodale park, Short North and then some around the hotel. The wedding day couldnt have gone more smoothly and the bridal party was so much fun to work with.

Mark Dantzer is by far one of my favorite DJ’s to work with! If you’re looking for an AMAZING DJ and someone you can trust not to be cheesy or too “DJ-ish”, he’s your man!!!!

All In Bloom did an amazing job on the flowers! They were so beautiful and I LOVED the peacock feathers!!

The ceremony and reception took place at the Columbus Athenaeum.

We were coming close to an end. My feet were sore, my back was achy and my brain was fried. I craved nothing but a hot shower, my sweet bed and hubby cuddles. 2 more hours to go and I could relax. The food had been served and everyone was enjoying a nice hot plate for their dinner. Jared and I had our own little room in the back corner all to ourselves, but were close enough to pop out real quick to see if anything was happening. We don’t take pictures during dinner for the fact that no one wants shots of themselves shoveling food into their mouth. Even if I did take those they’d probably get deleted anyways.

We took this time to upload our images from the day to have an extra backup and refuel our bellies. I leaned up against the wall next to Jared and let out a large sigh. Sigh of relief and relaxation. He took my hands and placed them on his shoulders in an attempt to give me a hug. He knows me well and knew that I looked like I could use a big comforting hug. In his arms I felt security, love and intense passion. A faint slow song started in the background of the reception for light dinner music and he took my right hand.

We giggled and fell deep into the moment of our little slow dance in the back room. No one around but us, engulfed into each others arms, slow dancing and falling more in love with each other in every moment.

Cyndal and Ric | Married

I love mornings like this one. All of our weddings but one this year so far have been out of town. Either out of state completely or two+ hours away. Not this morning. Today I lay on my couch admiring the beautiful work of photographers that inspire me to no end. I love this. Coffee, inspiration, perfect May weather. I couldn’t ask for it to be any other way. Its exactly how I picture my perfect wedding day.

The faint sounds of lawn mowers remind me that we should probably mow our grass soon. With all the rain this past week its been impossible to get out….but why am I talking about grass? Back to weddings…..

I cant remember the first time I met Cyndal. Ive known her since we were like 5 years old. Cyndal has always been a beautiful girl and has always been very sweet. When she emailed me about wedding photography I was beyond excited! I love weddings where we go into them knowing the couples pretty well. It creates an easy-going flow to the day and you go beyond just being the “wedding photographer” to being the “friend with a nice camera who takes pretty pictures”.

That’s one of the reasons why I pour my heart and soul into my blog posts and Facebook. I want my couples to know me to the deepest level. My likes, dislikes, my bubbly personality, and the love I have for Jared and photography.

When all four of us got together for Cyndal and Ric’s engagement photos it was a really good time. We got to know the love between the two of them, we got to know Ric’s goofy personality and we got to experience making new friends.

Cyndal’s Aunt took a moment to give Cyndal her Uncle Dave’s wedding band to wear around her bracelet. He passed away just a couple of months ago in a tragic accident:

Waking up on the beach | Wilmington NC

Being an Ohio native and waking up on the beach is an extraordinary and astonishing experience. We were so very fortunate (thanks to Uncle Joe and Aunt Marta) to have gotten to stay at the most beautiful beach house Ive ever stepped foot in.

We got in late. The air was thick and muggy. I took a deep breath and filled my lungs with the sweet Carolina air. I smacked my lips. Salty. The fragrance brought back a rush of childhood memories of playing on the beach with my little sister. Did I say playing? What I meant to say was Hannah chasing me around the beach with some kind of squid, baby shark or slippery ocean creature in hand. I giggled lightly to myself and blinked away the memory becoming conscience of the wonderful men in our family unloading our super stuffed car. We all exchanged hugs and kisses, filled our arms with luggage and headed into the house.

Wow. What a gorgeous home.

We found our surfer themed room and unloaded from the long day’s drive. After we were able to settle down and snuggle up I was ready to be wrapped up into Jared’s arms. Snoooooze.

I woke up to Jareds hands rocking my shoulders back and forth….”You ready to get up now??”…..huh, that is definitely not the normal way of waking up.

I slowly rolled over, rubbed my eyes, supported my upper body with my left forearm and peeled back the blinds. My eyes must have gotten as big as watermelons! I saw vibrant pinks, purples, blues and yellows shining from behind the sun rising over the boundless Atlantic Ocean. I hopped out of bed like a bolt of lightening, grabbed my camera and headed out barefoot into the chilly sand. Jared followed close behind with our cups of coffee.

Beautiful experience. In that moment of watching the sunrise holding my coffee in one hand my hubby in the other I began to recognize and appreciate the simplicity of our lives. Peaceful.

Nicole and Ron | Columbus Engagement

When I first got the email from Nicole we instantly had a connection. You see, Nicole is a dear friend of a dear Jacobus bride! Nic was a bridesmaid in the wedding we shot for Brittney and Nick last year! Nicole was very determined to have us as her photographers and I couldn’t be more excited to shoot her and Ron’s wedding!

We met downtown and started aroundBuggyworks. Then we decided to just take a walk and pop into places wherever I saw good light! Well, that seemed to be all over that day! We had so much fun talking about wedding stuff and favorite TV shows and just really getting to know Ron and Nicole more on a personal level. Im so in love with their wedding date 11-11-11!! How cool to have that as your anniversary!!

Dashin’ in the sunhine

Finally, I feel like winter is starting to break and spring is on its way in. I check the 10 day weather forecast everyday in hopes to see a big 70 and sunshine pop up into the 10th day. Its close. Friday, 69 and sunny! I almost jumped through my own skin with excitement. See, I’m a southern girl at heart. Have been, always will be. I try convincing myself that Im this snow bunny fanatic but my roots (and my toes) constantly remind me why I hate the cold. Now don’t get me wrong. I love the beauty of the glittery white stuff falling sosoftly from the sky. At Christmas. Not in November. Not in March. JUST DECEMBER. Then I’m over it. Bring on the sunshine! I write with contentment and genuine excitement today as I sit in my living room and watch my little boy laying in the rays that peak through the windows. I even dug out my summer bucket that holds all of my warmer weather clothes! But I keep coming back to watch my little Dash laying so quietly on the floor, soaking up the sun. He lifts his head with complete laziness to see if my gazemeans I’m going to interrupt his sun bathing time. When he finds my intentions are to document his personal time he lays his head back down on the cool hardwood floor. I whisper his name and all I receive is a small tail wag.

Well….maybe a beef biscuit bribe would get his attention…

Mimi’s Wonderland | Birthday

Themed birthday parties. My wonderful friend Katie knows how to throw an extraordinary themed birthday party. You might remember seeing Hope’s birthday party blog posted on here back in the late summer! Mimi decided she was going to have an Alice and Wonderland themed party this year for her 4th birthday. She made the cutest little Alice! The day was filled with a juggler, face painting, crafts, blow up bounce house’s, and lots and lots of yummy food!! Katie’s friend made the most awesome Cheshire cat Ive ever seen!!

Jenkins Family Christmas

Last week I had the chance to shoot the Jenkins family Christmas pictures! Rachel, Eric and I have known each other since this past summer and this shoot was well over due! The date we had scheduled to shoot started to become a disaster! Typically we will shoot at the Franklin Park Conservatory during the winter time. Especially if there are little babies involved. But the night we had scheduled it for the FPC was having their annual Christmas Party!! Tickets were sold out! So Rachel and I scrambled around searching for a place to shoot inside and still maintain the pretty Christmas feel. “The Blackwell hotel!!” She texted me. OF COURSE! The Blackwell Hotel downtown Columbus was perfect. It was also where Rachel and Eric had their wedding reception! The hotel was beautifully decorated and we were able to have fun inside and get the family photos we wanted! )

Then we headed outside for a few! Being that it was dark out we had to use off camera lighting. We also used off camera for Ryan and Holly’s wedding!

I just adore this one!

Jen and Andy | Married

Oh Jen. When I first received Jen’s inquiring email I was super bummed. Not because she was emailing me but because she came referred from our dear friend Beth and we were booked!! We exchanged bummed emails and went on our own ways. Then about 2 weeks later I received ANOTHER email from Jen saying they changed their date! And yes, we were open!! I was soo excited! When I first met Jen her presence alone made you feel so comfortable. Her passion for God and her love for Andy, I knew this couple was going to be great friends someday.

We shot Jen and Andy’s engagement session over this past summer and had so much fun! We got some ice cream, walked around Westerville and then went to our super fun country location! Andy is really into motorcycles and I tried to talk him into bringing it to the session but he was afraid he’d mess his hair up

We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding day! The weather was superb, the bridal party was HOTT and everyone was super welcoming to Jared and I!

The reception was held at the Medallion Country Club

Kelly and Steve | Married!

We had just moved into our new house. We had no bedroom furniture but a plain mattress on box springs and a hand me down comforter from my mom. I was sitting on my bed just taking in the new surroundings. That’s when Kelly called. I saw the unknown number pop up on my iPhone and excitingly answered, “Hi, this is Rachel!” And that’s where our friendship began. Kelly and I talked about wedding details for quite a while on the phone. When Jared and I went to meet her and Steve at Panera I felt like I was walking in to meet long lost friends I haven’t seen in a while. We casually talked, discussed packages and drank some tea. When Kelly and Steve decided to book with us I just couldn’t have been more excited. Kelly talked about her decor being made up of mostly babies breath. What?!? Something different than roses?!? Kelly, are you from OHIO!? I was super pumped to be getting a chance at photographing a different style decor! And Kelly did not disappoint! I just loved everything about their decor! Their reception took place at Creekside in Gahanna!

Kandice and Dan | Engaged

BFF’s. Since I was 15 years old Dan has been a BFF to me and Jared. It wasn’t always like that though. When Dan first met Jared and I he thought we were dorks. Not the cool kind. He regretted working with us, avoided us at Linkin Park concerts, then avoided us again at Steak and Shake, called us names and spit on us while we were down. Okay, so maybe not the last part. But you get my drift. Dan was a BULLY. Then one day something inside Dan snapped. He then realized that the coolest kids he knew were a little gal named Rachel and her forever side-kick, Jared. That’s the day we all became BFF’s.

Ive been around long enough to see Dan go into a relationship….then right back out. His standards were high. Maybe a little too high. We pleaded with him…”Dan, look. You’re getting older. Time to stop being so picky!” But Dan stood by his grounds and standards til one day he met Kandice. She met all of Dan’s needs. Tall. Dark hair. Smart. Witty. Funny. Athletic. Romantic. Loves God. And can put up with Dan…. Okay, I may have thrown that last one in myself. I thought I would never see the day. JUST KIDDING DAN!

The first time I met Kandice she came to visit Dan at my Dad’s pizza joint. I saw this beautiful woman walk into the foyer and pleasantly asked to speak with her boyfriend, Dan. My jaw dropped. SERIOUSLY? How did Dan get so lucky to find her? I’m telling you what, they are perfect for each other. In sooo many ways!

The engagement shoot was so much fun! MissAmy Lutz from ABC6 and FOX28 came to second shoot! She is an amazing woman! I took her head shots before the session, those to be posted later this week!
